20syl – Bet Dap Goom Bown (20syl’s BoomBap Festival Beat Remix)

Lengthy title, I know. Don’t worry. As always, there’s a reason.

Well, more like a story actually…

If you would, for a brief moment, take a step into my FTWubz Time Machine (patent pending) and turn the dial back to the last century, circa 1999. If you know anything about Back to the Future and the workings of time travel in general, you just might happen to notice something a little peculiar about the way my flux capacitor works. Much like the TARDIS from every nerd’s favorite Sci-Fi television show, Doctor Who, my time machine not only travels through time, but space as well. As you hear the space-punk themed contraption power up, engage, and rear itself to a lurching halt, you will emerge from the dank chamber in an unusual place (that is, not where you departed from).

You have safely arrived in Reims, France during the famous Boom Bap Hip Hop Festival. Making your way through a gathered crowd of music fans you cannot help but notice the ultra dulcet, hip-hop-influenced beats of this next production duo. In fact, what you’re actually hearing is an original mix to the very same song I have included below by native French producers Hocus Pocus and C2C of 20syl. These two bros have been in the game for quite some time and it would seem that making uncanny hip-hop beats is certainly nothing new to this tandem.

I went crazy for 20syl’s remix to Schoolboy Q (the whole EDM world did) and I hope this next jam will fall in line. Enjoy this reworking to “Bet Dap Goom Bown.”

Yeah, I have no idea what that means either.

Stonebank – Eagle Eyes (feat. Emel) [MONSTERCAT]

When it comes to producing melodic dubstep, living in the shadow of an artist like Seven Lions is certainly no walk in the park. In order for an emerging artist to grab the attention of the electronic dance world, they must offer up a track that is truly a work of art, something rather special. Unfortunately, it is the inherent predisposition we all share as human beings that clouds our judgement when listening to new music. We are more willing to accept or enjoy a production from an artist in which we are already acquainted with (call it a bias if you will). We want their music to be good because we have already invested time in the artist(s) in question.

Fortunately for this next producer, he picked the right platform in which to springboard his euphonic genius onto our collective ears. It’s not even a contest any more, Monstercat = good music. It is as simple as that. Word up to our Canadian brethren pumping out wildly enjoyable EDM tunes day in and day out.

With the help of my feline friends, Stonebank brings us his first discernible release to date. “Eagle Eyes” (featuring vocals by EMEL) will warp the listener on a journey through a dense, dynamically shifting melodic dubstep landscape eloquently crafted by this up and coming producer hailing from, you guessed it, the UK.
